COLUMBUS, Ohio
– (April 16, 2008) – A camp for children with
serious illnesses and their families will soon be realized because of a little
legwork – literally.
Flying Horse Farms Founder Jenni Belford (43209) and Capital Campaign Director Cara Cloyd (43220) are running in the 112th Boston Marathon April 21 to raise money to provide the gift of camp to kids who otherwise could not experience it.
“Our 20-mile training runs are nothing compared to what these kids endure every minute, each day of their lives,” Belford said. “Every step is worth it for them and for our sponsors who are supporting us.”
Opening Fall 2009 in Mount Gilead, Ohio, Flying Horse Farms will offer year-round programming for more than 2,500 children annually who are diagnosed with arthritis, asthma, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders, heart disease, hemophilia, sickle cell disease and other serious illnesses. Camps will also be available for siblings and families.
“These camps change lives,” Cloyd said. “For the better and truly forever.”
Belford and Cloyd will run as members of Team Hole in the Wall – a web-based approach to generating funds in support of the mission of Hole in the Wall Camps, the world’s largest family of camps for children with serious illnesses. Supporters are given the necessary online tools to fundraise for any or all of the member Hole in the Wall Camps. As a Provisional Member of Hole in the Wall Camps, Flying Horse Farms can receive funds through the Team Hole in the Wall program.
Flying Horse Farms aspires to be a Full Member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps and is following a set of guidelines designed to assure each member-camp provides the highest level of safety and programming for the children. Camps are also designed to assure that each member-camp has financial support. Hole in the Wall camps is assisting Flying Horse Farms in meeting the necessary requirements.
